HOW TO GET A TLC DRIVERS LICENSE?

A TLC (Taxi & Limousine Commission) license is a mandatory license required to legally drive taxis and for-hire vehicles in New York City. This license is additional and does not replace your regular driver's license.

The TLC license ensures that drivers meet the safety and regulatory standards established by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission.

This license is only required to work in New York City and is not valid in other states.

Requirements

• Minimum Age: 19 years
• Have a valid DMV driver's license from any state - Class A, B, C, or E
• Must have a valid Social Security (No ITIN)
• NO outstanding fines or payments to the NYS DMV or TLC
• No more than 5 points on your DMV license in the last 15 months
• DMV Record or Abstract (Only For non-NY licenses)
• Medical Clearance: A licensed physician (MD or DO) must complete the TLC Medical Certification Form for you.

1. Complete the TLC license application ( www.nyc.gov/lars)
2. Register for TLC and DMV Classes with Millennium
3. Take a Drug Test
4. Do the Fingerprints 
5. Complete the medical Clearance
6. Take the TLC final driver's exam

The Estimated Cost is $890 to $990 for the entire Process.

Once you submit your application, you'll have 90 days to complete all requirements, although it could only take 2 to 4 weeks to complete the process.

As long as your application remains active, you can take the TLC exam as many times as necessary until you pass or until your application number expires. ($49 per attempt)
